Carnival Sunshine - Engineering Consultancy

March 2013
Carnival Sunshine (Destiny)

RGB Electrical was asked to provide consultancy service assistance to CCL during the later stages of the Carnival Sunshine (Destiny) Refit in Trieste Italy.

A number of initiatives were undertaken by CCL's senior management to investigate and improve the overall redundancy, safety, survivability and habitability following potential failure modes on board.

Electrically this involved specifically the following focus areas.

  • Mapping the cable routes of all cables in high risk engine space areas and rerouting specific critical and essential services.
  • Installation of a 'New Aux emergency diesel Engine (AEDG)' and ''New Comfort User Switchboard (CUS1)' to feed those loads specified to maintain minimum acceptable hotel service operation after a significant failure event on board.
  • Designing the new distribution configuration and discussions with Vendors, Class society etc. to provide the myriad amount of equipment, cabling and switchboard extensions to realize this complex new project.

Working in conjunction with the Carnival Corporate team and CCL, the following equipment was specified, functional descriptions and modes of operation were determined and project was subsequently started and is still underway.
