MOL - LNG Fraiha

MOL - LNG Fraiha

Whilst underway and operating normally with a full cargo of LNG (Liquid Natural Gas). A fuel line feeding one of the cylinders of one of the main engines broke loose.
The fuel oil being expelled, subsequently ignited when it came into contact with hot surfaces on the engine, probably in the area of the turbo blower and a severe engine room fire engulfed the engine room space.

The resultant damage was substantial and required the re-cabling of a large proportion of the engine room space including the replacement of control equipment and sensors throughout the affected area.

RGB were contacted due to our history of dealing with engine room fire damage spaces and a team of engineers were flown out to the ship now at anchor off the coast of Dubai and worked under extremely difficult conditions to bring the ship back to serviceable operation.
Approx 10km of ships wiring had to be replaced which consisted of power, signaling and comms cables. The total repair time was brought down to 8 weeks even working under difficult logistic issues encountered in these middle east waters.

A full team of around 20 engineers were mobilized to attend the ship to complete this work.
The ship is now back operating normally and RGB completed the repair within the time allocated.
